Big fan of side exit headers here for all the reasons mentioned. NOT a fan of them coming out in front of the tire. It's just a LOOK thing for me, that's all. I realize in the rear can be tougher because of firewalls and inner fenders, but I would do the work to make them rear exit. Again just a personal opinion. Most cars have plenty of room behind the tire, it's just getting there can be an issue. Notch that firewall and floor......LOL!!! We even had to notch doors a little

I've got way more room in front of the tire than behind, and my chassis work is done and the engine compartment painted. I've had plenty of cars with exhaust dumping ahead of the rear axle, and it sucks for a lot of reasons.
I'm thinking of something along these lines..

It definitely gets tighter when the engine is set back for sure.
I'm not sure I like the front exit if you can avoid it. Seems like any servicing of the front of the engine, you'd have the exhaust right in your face.
Then again, it's in your face about anywhere.
Gotta do what you gotta do.
Just because you think it won't make it true. Horsepower is KING. To dispute this is stupid. C. Alston

I remember about 6 years ago sitting in the staging lanes on a 90 degree day with the car next to me just shooting alcohol fumes in my face with his fender exit headers lol, I thought I was gonna die and I really hoped it was just a fad that would pass soon but it has definitely gotten pretty popular. I'm sure it makes pretty much everything about a race car easier and it certainly would have eliminated my exhaust system nightmares getting up on my trailer. I doubt a 9" bullet muffler will be any different than open headers. Now if you can fit a decent muffler in there with some stainless packing it could knock alot of sound down and still have the benefits of fender exit.

did you say "limited street driving"? You might want to check with your state about you exhaust. some require to exit behind the passenger compartment, has something to do with carbon monoxide poisoning.
Without Data, you’re just another guy with an opinion.

Not a fan, but that's just my opinion.
It really doesn't matter whether you win or lose… as long as you look good doing it!
