I am about to embark on a tremendous project. I am going to have to replace the floors from the firewall to the rear bumper on my 68 Charger. I have searched this forum but haven't found a detailed post on the subject as far as which panel first ect. I'm sure there is one I just haven't found it. Looks to me like I start at the firewall & work my way back? Would it be best to pull the engine & transmission first. Do I need to install any braces & I'm sure I need to take the tension off the torsion bars. Any guidance would be appreciated! Anybody ever weld them in with a tig to get that factory spot weld look? Thanks in advance for the help!!! GTS

Pull drive train it will only get in the way

Put on level ground and support it on stands
Start from front to rear
I only do a pan at a time
you shouldn't have to use extra bracing that way.

Only link that might help that I can think of is to go here http://www.musclecarrestorations.com/gal...-005/?g2_page=5 and check for cars that have had the floors repaired or replace. As stated you're for sure going to need to remove the engine and transmission to do it right and safely.

Link to all of the Mopars they have done http://www.musclecarrestorations.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=38868

floor removed

floor removed 2

floor removed 3

floor installed 4

There are LOTS more images and cars and it might be worth checking out the non-Mopar cars too?

I've done this a couple times. On a '69 Charger 500, I replaced all of the floors from the firewall to the tail panel.... on a '69 GTX and a '70 Superbird, I did the same thing with the exception of the rear seat section area. The best advice that I can give is... just take your cutting out the old metal. It is easy to get in a hurry and cut something out that you did not intend to. Use a wire wheel to clean up the original spot welds so that you can clearly see where they all are. To remove/install the rear seat floor panel, you will also need to remove the large V-shaped brace assembly that is behind the seat frame. Take special care not to distort the brace so that you can reinstall it later. Another thing that will help, go ahead and weld the spare tire brace, the fuel tank brace, and the fuel tank strap braces to the the trunk floor before you weld the floor in place. It is a lot easier to do this out of the car than to try and crawl inside the trunk and weld. Hope this helps a little.
