Bad switch or bad resistor. Most likely it is the resistor

The blower motor resistor is located at the passenger side upper firewall. They are prone to connection issues and melting the plug that goes to them. The resistor itself is usually reusable after the connector terminals have been cleaned.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I have a '96 Dak and have to pull the connector every few months and clean it.

As long as your in there pop your resistor out and check for corrosion. Mine was so bad eventually the fan stopped working altogether. I clipped the wire and stuck in the available slot on the 4-position common bus. Check the pic; you can see where I clipped it off and moved it over.
