I need a drive shaft for my 1966 Belvedere 440/727. Is there a common junk yard swap or some car close in size that anyone has used. I think the length is about 52.25 inches. A friend suggested getting a truck drive shaft and having it cut down but to size. Any suggest?

are you useing the 8-3/4 rear as the smaller rear uses a different length, having one cut to fit is way better if you cant find one coz they usually ballance and install ne u-joints.

Sorry I forgot it is an 8 3/4...Has anyone tried an aluminum drive shaft? I was told later model gm pickups have them. I was wondering if that would be even better?

I just had one made for my 63. I ordered it thru Mancini and told them what front and rear yokes I had. Then I just gave them the center to center driveshaft lenth. My was mild steel for my 63. I have not used an aluminum one but I guess you could measure one and make sure it's long enough. Then see if the yokes are right and then of course have it cut and balanced to your lenth. I myself have not ever heard about a truck shaft with the right ends on it. Ron

I got my drive shaft from http://www.thrashdriveshaft.com/
and I'm very happy with it, I used 13 series joints with u-bolts. Mine was around $300.00 or so.
IMO it's best to have the car about done at race weight and ride height set or close as you can to done then measure for the driveshaft....

2 wheel drive 1/2 ton pickups with a 727 will have the right yoke and joints (if you have the small joint) but will more than likely the wrong length.
