When I was about to build my engine I searched around for dual plug info and couldn't find much.... most builders were AGAINST the idea in my scenario- a street car. The engine builder I went with claimed the dual plug setup would COST ME about 30hp.... I love the looks of a dual plug Hemi.

Wow I would never thought it would cost that much power, maybe a little for the extra drag on the distributor. IMO With today's ignitions, and running normal pump fuel, or even race fuel..I would think it would only be for a visual effect. I would love to see my Hemi one day with a 14-71 Blower, and a Buzzard catcher, and twin plug deal..
I like the old look, I just spent some coinage fixing this old 3700 series Accel tach drive distributor up, to run with a Moroso Monster cable drive tach. I won On Ebay for $38...that's right, the tach, tach bracket, and cable for $38 dollars.. The Petronix Ignitor conversion kit cost me $90 alone. And $60 for the used distributor. I could have had a fancy MSD Pro Billet, but this is way cooler..... I think its worth it, all to get the look I seek.

Thanks for the info. I had herd the second plug location allowed for the engine to be moved back a bit for pro stock if I remember it right. I was after the Looks value. Something like this. only a 8-71 blower. I think a big 10-1471 would make to much heat on a street car. there isn,t much that can mach the looks of a HEMI with this set up,and a Blower/Enderle. IMO

I do have a 68 Charger which I converted to Twinplug, because it already had the Mopar alu twinplug heads. I took the old Accel cranktrigger type distributor which is empty inside, only the high voltage part there, and I converted the first distributor by adding a spacer and turning down the shaft inside, and adding a standard Mopar RB electronic plate + weights inside, adding a 2. pickup there, so one distributor makes the signals, and both deliver sparks. It works really neat, and gives extreme drivability, and starts really easy. In my manual 3:54 4speed car with stock mech cam, I can run from 10 mph in 4th, and accelerate fast up to top speed (at appx 6000 rpms), or my wife can take it to the grocery no problems.

Yes, the carbs are 660 centersquirters. They work very well, but are thirsty. I worked the carbs to make 10% better milage, without sacrifying much. I also made a cam change to the 292 hydraulic with Rhoads lifters, but got some gremlins there, I think my springs are too stiff so there is still some way to go. Next will be a 6-speed ZF transmission (from a Corvette) in a desperate attempt to make it cruise with 318 mileage and have Hemi performance...
Thanks again, O. Mostad / Norway

My understanding of the dual plug setup is that their is little or no gain in power. But there is a little gain in using the "B" side plug on a single plug head. I do love the look though.

I have heard they worked ok on Nitro cars, just for the added spark though.

One more thing: If you got a tach drive distributor you can convert it to twin system by taking a 6-cylinder distributor and thread the housing in a lathe to fit the tach system, you can secure it by splitting it and using a clamp over, or just a simple set-screw, then it is simple to grind the shaft to fit the drive. I would recommend th use dual pickups in one master distributor to make it more accurate, and then run the other as a slave. I made such one for a friend of mine. The distributor cap is interchangeable from 6 to 8 cylinder, no problem. This got to be a "poor-man's twin ignition" but it is simple, cost-efficient, compact and it works!! Sorry, did not take pictures of it. If twin sparks make more hp?: Has to, because timing can be 3 degrees lower (old info from Sox and Martin), this means less counterpressure during firing / full burn. To drive the system costs nothing more than the slight electric and mechanical extra load, maybe a fraction of a hp. Be aware that the rockers need to be slightly slimmed to fit the 2. tube (very simple job) Thanks again, O. Mostad
