This winter put windshield washer fluid in your cooling system. It's rated for -20* and in the summer it's legal for the track ....I know some guys don't even remove it

Nice to see you stopping in more often. We now nave a sticky in the race section for power adders that you can go in and start a post. May I suggest some nitrous tips and progressive settings for a start.

Boiling point of a typical -20F washer fluid (31% methanol by weight) is only about 170F. If you're not running a 160 thermostat you'll have lots of pressure in your cooling system... doesn't sound like a great idea.

Not recommended for daily drivers. Just race cars that want to have some a/f for winter temps, and something that if there is some residual left in there the track won't kick you out for it !

Yes, lots easier to handle than green antifreeze. And easier to drain and go back to water in the race season

Most of the guys around here drain the engine completely somehow....I find it difficult to get all the water out and then I worry it will rust and makes a big mess next year when you put water back in.

I just run antifreeze all year. Done it the last couple of years, and no one noticed....

After the last race of the year, I dumped the water, put in antifreeze, and ran the water pump for a few minutes. Only took a half hour from unstrapping the car in the trailer to strapping it back in. Reverse the process next spring. My buddy just drained the water out a few years ago, and some water was trapped in the heads, and cracked them over winter. It caused a huge mess.

Yes, they are related. The problem is that you have to have that increased pressure to keep your coolant from boiling whenever the temperature is at or above the boiling point. In other words the increased temperature causes the increased pressure, which is hopefully contained by your radiator cap.

If the temp leaving the block is, say, 180 then there will be places in the heads where it's probably closer to 200 (pulling figure out of the air here) which will need a few psi to keep it from boiling. Don't know how many.

Anyway it's an interesting concept but I think I'll stick with antifreeze & water (and a required catch can)...

Trying to be considerate of my fellow racers I don't and won't run antifreeze but I have dumped a gallon in at Norwalk after the Halloween Classic. I do this because one year I didn't get my car unloaded as soon as I planned from my car trailer and popped a freeze plug. I didn't do it this year because I am planning on one more test n tune before it gets placed in my heated shop. But I'm watching the weatherman VERY closely.
