Entered the leaf spring class Friday night at the Low Country Cash Days event at Midway Dragstrip. This was the first leaf spring race I've seen around here. Figured why not. Was supposed to pay 1k w/ a 10 car minimum. Well, 4 cars showed up. One S-10 broke in testing before the race, so there were 3 of us racing.
We flipped for the first round bye run...I got it.
So Blazer Dave and his high 4 sec smallblock S-10 blazer had to run Jeff Plemmons w/ a mid 4 sec 762" Fulton powered '72 Nova, both on a lot of nitrous and 275 radials. The Blazer cut a light, but the Nova ran him down.
I made a bye run and by now, the dew was falling heavy and the track was getting sketchy. I spun, but got down the track. Was running some mid 5.80s.
For the final...the Nova broke the trans after the burnout, couldn't back up. Not wanting to be a jerk, I shut mine off and waited for them to push it back to see if they atleast had forward gears, but they didn't. So I got waved down the track for the win! I made a pass anyway, spun, pedaled it, then got REAL loose at mid track and lifted.
Won enough to cover my entry, fuel and food...and never got to actually race anyone, lol. Should have bought a lottery ticket on my way home!

A win is a win!

I've entered classes where there was a light turnout and won money, but you still have to take the tree and not have issues! On a bye run on an 11.50 index I ran an 11.499 braking at the big end just to show off. LOL!

Congrats!!! A win is a win, and you did everything you could in the final to see if the Nova could at least move down the track.

I have a win or few under my belt, but every win I have , at some point during elim's I had a lucky break. I agree with the rest, you woke up the next day a winner and still had the $$$$'s. Good job!
