Was wondering if anybody here knows where I can get just one main bearing. I need the number 3 thrust bearing pair, upper and lower.
I have a set from years ago, and the thrust bearing got messed up. The other 4 pair are still new.
I called around but I can only find places that sell complete sets. They sell rod bearings seperatly, but not mains.

What motor, year model and what size main bearings are you wanting?

That would be for a standard size in a stock '69 440.

Do you want a brand new stock one or do you have a choice on the brand? If a particular brand to match the others you have which brand do you want? I keep the good used ones for myself as well as stock new ones for stock and race builds shruggy

It was possible many years ago with a good parts guy / store. With the bean counting / cost cutting in the last 15 or so years maybe not anymore. You may be stuck with buying a complete set. Last I knew they weren't that pricey. shruggy popcorn

Ya, probably is a cost saving effort today.
One of the engines I did years ago had a maltese cross stamped on the block and the crank was stamped as to different size main and rod journels. The machinist said the crank was fine and ordered specific bearings for each journel.
Was able to buy one ring for that engine when I ground the gap way too big.
Probably over 20 years ago.

I would call the manufacturer of the brand you prefer.. I messed one up when I was building my engine last year, checked with all the auto parts stores within an hour of me for one.. none of them could get me just the one I needed so I called the manufacturer and ordered it directly from them, however shipping was high IIRC around $15.00..

I have a pair of RB thrust bearings you are welcome to. they are clevite 77 and are .001 US (probably a plus for you). they are new but have some slight rubbing damage that you can barely see in the pic at ~10 0'clock (not from being installed but knocked around in transit) & I think a slight touch up & there would not be an issue as it is around the corner so to speak from the bearing surface. they are the small thrust ones (OD in pic is ~3& 19/32"). they fit on my late 74 440 block this evening when I checked em but I could see that the block flanges were way wider than the bearing flanges. BB newbie but iirc narrow bearing flanges will fit narrow and wide block flanges but wide bearings need a later block with the wide flanges
