Looking at BB low deck head options for my next engine build...Probably a 400 based stroker...

Right now I run a EZ1 head out of the box and have gone 9.78 with that on pump gas...Looking to see if I should move up to the EZ1 295 or?

I made over 900 hp with the EZ heads on my 514 shortblock. That wasn't a very stable combination so I wouldn't recommend duplicating it but I'd think that a person could build a 850 hp combo that would go rounds using the EZ heads.

My heads were ported by Modern but I think they took them a little bit too far so you might want to dial it back a hair. I was running over 15:1 compression which was also a little too much so you might want to back that down to 13.5 or something like that.

Run the numbers and see if 850 hp is fast enough for you. If it is then you just need to get your heads ported and build the shortblock around them.

Why not the 572-13's? Yes, you need different pistons, and they really like a large bore, but they will work, just at higher rpm's.

Well, for bracket racing, we keep the rpm's down and save on parts. We also run pump gas 93E10

My goal was a 512 based 400 block and see what is the best head for this combo, or should I just stay with what I have...the 440-1's are what I was wondering about, but those might be tough in an A-body...

850 is doable with the EZ heads. You can use the 440-1 in a LOWDECK A body and the regular 2" tti/cppa header works with minor tweeks. Ran that combo years ago. 572s on a stock block is not a going to work. Victors should also be looked at as they should also work.

93E10 means you need to be down around 11:1 compression so that will kill 100 hp. Now you're down to around 750 hp with ported EZ heads. If that is enough power to hit your number then it seems like those would be a good choice for you. If you already have the EZ heads then I assume you also have headers that are working today?

Yes and yes....I am not a race fuel guy, and the headers I have are beat, but I have found a new set I will order if money allows....The low deck worries me a little for header fitment, but I am definitely not going custom..

So I run around 10.8:1, might push to 11:1, and EZ275, EZ295, or 440-1's are my question. We will turn it to 6400rpm and launch around 2200...We have done well this way in a stock block, so I am curious if I should be looking at other heads or not.

I would look at using a set of 440-1, the best I could get, as long as I could buy either a set of TTI or maybe a custom set of Hedman BB A body fender well headers from their race shop to fit your car scope work scope
I made 775 HP using Oregon 91 octane pump several years back using a set of ported 440-1 heads on my old 518 C.I. 400 C.I. stroker motor short block with a 400-3 intake and a 1050 CFM Holley Dominator #9375 non HP carb. boogie That was on a DTS engine dyno in Klamath Falls, OR at 4300 ft. elevation up

Torsion bars or after market front suspension? I have run low deck sr heads to -1's with tti 2 inch headers and torsion bars manual steering box. When I went to the 572-13's I bought a alterkation front suspension and went with the 2 to 2 1/8 step headers. With the aluminum block I had to sink the side main cap bolts in and a few other small mods to get them to fit. The Pittman arm on the torsion bar setup also rubbed and I clearance it too.
