pertonix quit working with no warning, power on both sides of coil but nothing coming out of tower. any ideas or sugestions? never had one fail before,??? jeff57

Pertronix I or II, or III...what where you or the vehicle doing prior to it's "demise"?

I would unhook the P & ohm it just to check for basic continuity & check the gap. You might unhook the yellow wire from the "ign" terminal on the starter relay to disable the starter & have a helper hold the key to "start" & see if the positive primary terminal is hot then have him release the key to "run" & see if it is still hot. unhook all wires (might just be (1) from the coil negative primary terminal and with a jumper wire with alligator clips on each end, clip one end to this coil negative primary terminal (not the wire but the terminal) and drag the other end alligator clip across the intake metal surface to make/break contact as you at the same time hold the dist end of the large coil secondary wire 1/4" from ground & see if it sparks while dragging the alligator clip. EDIT Some P caveats that might cause its early demise; leaving the ign key on/removing the green tape/no solid core plug wires. iirc the gap is .030"

idling in driveway. just shutoff. ign II. factory mopar wires,could that be a problem? jeff57

When you crank it is the (-) terminal on the coil pulsing? If it is, the Petronix is probably good and the coil is dead.

Factory wires would not be an issue, have you checked the air gap (.030 required), also are you using the ballast resistor or eliminated it?, is the coil factory/aftermarket, or a Pertronix Flame Thrower unit?

when I posted "no solid core wires" & that could be construed to be IF "no solid core wires" are used then there could be a problem & what I meant to say is that "No solid core wires should be used" with Pertronix. Holler how it develops.
