I'm fed up with carbs at this point. I keep flooding out on very steep inclines, and declines. I've already accepted the fact that if I want to do the kind of wheeling I want to do, some kind of fuel injection is required.

What are my options for a bolt on plug and play, basic system. I'd prefer to not need a laptop to tune it, as I don't have one and I don't want to have to buy one.

Price range $2k or there abouts.

Thanks in advance!

I used a TBI system for a Mustang that I restored mainly because it looks like a carb when installed. They have a lot of choices such as Atomic, FiTech, Fast and a few others. I chose the Atomic for my installation and so far have not had any issues with it. Very good cold running properties, I start it up and can immediately drive it in the winter without a miss. With my installation I also hooked it up so that the EFI control unit would also control timing for the motor. Used an MSD dizzy and locked the advance out and so there is no mechanical or vacuum advance provided by the dizzy. What I like best is that from the handheld I can set the A/F ratio for idle, cruising and WOT. For the timing I can set the initial timing without having to move the distributor again by inputting just what I want. For timing advance I can specify how much and at what rpm to start and rpm that I want all in at and how much. I can also simulate vac adv both ported or unported and the amount that I want even though it is not connected to manifold vac.

I change all the tuning by just inputting what I want to use. No more changing out carb jets, power valves or anything else when you want to alter the setting, you don't even need a timing light as the handheld will display everything that you need to look at. It even tells you how much vacuum your motor is making.

Lastly I would use it on my current RR project but I want to keep the 3 deuces. I can provide pics if you want to see the setup.

Holley Sniper or Terminator. Sniper is $1000 and supports up to 650 HP.

Holley HP is another option but would require Fuel injector bungs to be welded to the manifold, but it would give you multiport injection..

I had the FAST EZ on a 440 in a Ramcharger a few years ago. Great for wheeling. It had great throttle response and never was a problem. Seemed the top end was a bit low on power compared to a carb though.
One thing to consider for off-road is fuel delivery. I had a fuel cell and with the fuel pick up at the rear. Not a problem going on inclines, but could run out of fuel on declines. Doing it again, I would have had a fuel sump, baffled tank, or small auxiliary fuel tank.
The Fast didn't need a laptop for it. A plus for some. Sometimes fine tuning with a laptop could be a benefit.
There are many different options now compared to when I bought mine, but I would get one with good customer service. Nothing more frustrating... Your system doesn't work, and having no tech support.

Thanks for the help guys! I think I've chosen FITECH. Mainly because they're right down the street from my house which I did not know until I went to their "contact us" page.

Did you notice any fuel mileage increase with the fuel injection? I do some interstate driving, and if I coul pick up some mileage, that'd be awesome!

Fuel mileage is hard to say. Didn't keep track as it was a dedicated wheeler. I would say mpg would have been equivalent to my thermoquad. My speed demon carb (with spring loaded needles/seats) was definitely bad for fuel economy, but it sure did go!
Guess what I'm saying is, depends on what carb you have on now. I know the "off road carbs" are notoriously terrible on fuel, where a properly tuned thermoquad can be exceptional.
I wouldn't expect any mpg change.

You will be happy with it. My buddy has put on a few of these and loves them. They also have a fuel command center so no need for a return line to the tank. Pretty cool setup!
