What were used on 69 340's in 69 darts for mufflers? What is the closest replacement you can get?

I bought theses muffles for my 69 Dart GTS 340 from Summit earlier this summer. I too was looking for a aftermarket muffler that was close to the original factory mufflers. So far, I have not installed them as the car is still apart, so I can't report on the fit or their sound.

2.25 in and out ... NOT stock on a 69 340 equipped mopar.

I assume he is looking for actual FACTORY replacement , Accurate LTD or Gardner will be the only place that has them.

Here is the muffler you are looking for , you may actually want the ACM-18 though , 1 7/8 outlet like stock ... even the 383 and 440 equipped A bodies used that muffler because they used 340 tailpipes .

If it's not 2.25" in and out then what size was it on a stock 69 340 muffler? I talked to the people at Accurate and that's what I was lead to believe. The head pipes are 2.25" and I was told that the tail pipes are 2.25" and then reduce down to 2" along side of the gas tank for the factory 1-7/8" tips. Just when I thought I had this all figured out, I'm now learning something different.

Maybe this will clarify a few things. In 1967 and 1968 , 383 equipped a body cars
had 2" I.D. inlet and 2" I.D. outlet mufflers. On 1968 models when exhaust tips were first available , the two piece welded tailpipes reduced to 1-7/8" I.D. at the rear to accept the exhaust tips. In 1969 this changed for 383 , 340 and M code 440 models to 2-1/4" I.D. inlet and outlet mufflers. The 1969 welded two piece tailpipes were 2-1/4" O.D. at the front downsizing to 1-7/8" I.D. at the rear for the exhaust tips. Assembly line mufflers were welded directly to the headpipes for all models. To replace the muffler , the original muffler was sawed off of the headpipe and the replacement muffler clamped into place.

Tom, Thanks for the tail pipe photo and also I appreciate you clarifying this issue. I have spent a lot of time trying to understand the factory exhaust mysteries for my 69 Dart.
