Ok I see. I did some Googling and see where this piece is like a "gap hider" between the bumper and hood. Like the bumper to fender pieces that Dales Cuda sells.
Does anyone make these rubber seals or the metal strip?
This one is in great shape but it's going in my parts database. I bought a giant box of parts off a guy, thin from the southwest or California and all the rubber pieces cleaned up like new. Hood to radiator and hood to cowl seals that almost look nos and still soft. Jim, Correct as mentioned this piece is the filler strip to seal between the hood and bumper on a 70 ONLY Charger, it is also used on the 69 Daytona Charger as well... The aftermarket piece while correct in profile is another victim that often plagues aftermarket weatherstripping, the durometer is too high, plus the manufacturer extrudes this molding so the curve found in the original's center doesn't exist in the repro, this causes the center to bulge or pucker when installed, when the repro is used on a Daytona the results are even more pronounced due to the nosecone angle, this causes the repro molding to stand somewhat erect when installed, rather than lay flat like the original...I usually spend a few days compressing, heating, and shaping the repros to conform "naturally" in shape to fit a Daytona, the aftermarket piece is usable, but many restorers wish a better product was out there!...as far as the metal backing strip, you either reuse an original, or fabricate a replacement Mike

Good info Mike!
I'm sure the original seal was just a straight extrusion. I'm certain it wasn't molded with an arc. But like you said, and I know from handling/storing the extrusions I have make, If you lay this in the sun over a form you can get it to take a new shape eventually. My extrusions come rolled and I cut them to length and stack them flat and after a coupe weeks they are FLAT.
Who makes that extrusion? It looks VERY similar to the 63-66 A body hood to radiator seal extrusion I had made.
That metal strip is stamped with curved edge. Doubt anyone would tool up to make that. For a driver quality car I'm sure just a similar metal strip would be fine. Why would it need the extra strength of the curved/bent edges? Jim, the original very well could be just an extrusion? but the repro's durometer could be a little less on it's current scale, as far as the metal retainer/backing plate, it really needs the curved/rolled over edges to grip the raised edge on the underside mounting lip to hold the rubber strip straight, I'm sure one could use just a piece of flat stock, drill the required mounting holes, but then your left trying to align the rubber so it lays flat in appearance rather than have waves, the rolled edges of the original metal backing strip add some rigidity and uniformity to the rubber when cupping the raised mounting boss of the profile, when I don't have an original backing strip supplied by the customer, I fabricate one from "miniature" box iron/steel square tubing with a wall thickness of generally .040-.060, using a Doall band saw to cut the box down to a "U" shaped piece, then clean up the edges in a milling machine, along with milling the slotted holes, alot of work for a piece never seen, but people/judges do lift the rubber seal to see if mounted correctly, esp on a Daytona As to whom the vendor is?, I don't know, I generally purchase the piece thru Year One, but I suspect it's Dale's Cuda Shop as the supplier to YO Mike

What is the name of this peice? I actually have one off a 70 Charger I pulled off to sell but unsure what to call it. Anyone know? hood to bumper seal for a 70 Charger, or a hood to OUTER cone seal for a 69 Daytona (same piece)
