I've been on the fence about adding gear and getting a looser converter, or adding spray. As much as I like to drive the car and as little as I race (less than 10 outings/year), I decided to look into nitrous. With my cam and rotating assembly, I'm thinking 250 is the most this combination will ever see. It's a 13:1 499 on e85. What's the best "budget" kit available for someone not looking to spray more than 250? I realize the double crossbar plates have better distribution, but I've also heard that doesn't become much of a benefit until the 250-300+ range. Is it worth getting a system flowed and blueprinted on a system that will see a 250 shot max? I've been told it's not needed on something like I plan on doing. It sounds like the big shot plate is one of the best single bar plates available and of course Nitrous Outlet said their stinger 3 would work great. The intake being used is an Indy 4500 with the cloverleaf removed with some other plenum work.

A Big Shot plate kit sounds fine for what you're looking to do.

Thanks, Chip. That's why you are running, correct? I know every combo is different, but how much did you pick up on the juice? I can't remember how much you are hitting the ol Hemi with.

Lol
Yeah, I'm really wanting to do this so I can race in some of the local no preps next year. I won't be a top contender, but I may be able to go a couple rounds unless everyone steps it up big time. I just think I have too much going against me to spray more than 250. I'm already thinking I need to open up the ring gaps a bit.

Im just saying, have something left in the bottle so to speak. You can jet it at 150 or 250 etc. but also you know you got more if you're just getting nipped at the stripe.

I have an old NOS Doublecross plate...essentially it's a pair of Big shot plates w/ one turned sideways.
I have a pair of 65 nitrous jets in it which Monte says is about 225 hp.
My best all motor pass in great air was 9.54 at 140.4 mph.
My best nitrous pass is 8.91 at 150+ mph in not very good air w/ a delay on the nitrous to keep the car hooked and the frontend down. It'll definitely go faster, just needs more tuning. I just have limited time to go to the track nowadays.

The Big Shot plate will go up to at least 300 hp, so you still have some room to grow. The solenoids in the Big Shot kit will flow enough to make 400 hp, so you can always upgrade just the plate later if you decide you need more.

I agree it'd be a good idea to have room to grow. I'm starting to lean towards a crossbar/crosshair kit at this point.

Those pistons look really thick with the 1st ring well below, but unless you have a block that can support that much, your crank may be on the line (literally)... eek

You can also look into PKRE he has a really bad single bar plate. It has really good distribtion, and can flow 5-600hp with the right soleniods.

it's my dream and aspiration to get my W8 360 running and squeeze it hard enough to qualify in 8.5 outlaw at Street Car Supernationals... I'm in to it cheap enough where I wouldn't cry too long.

That name has come up a few times. I'll definitely check out what he has to offer.

Charger453,
Not a nitrous guru...not even close. Just a nitrous enthusiast.

When considering the budget, I prefer to piece a kit together rather than buy an all inclusive kit. The best bargain is the NOS Big Shot cheater upgrade kit. For a tick over two bills, you get the big shot plate, large nitrous solenoid, dash 6 feed line and bottle nut, solenoid to plate lines, and jets.

Used bottles, and bottle brackets are almost always available on Ebay, or craigslist, or at swap meets.

Fuel solenoids almost never have issues, and can be purchased used, or are reasonably priced as a separate item new.

I can usually save a couple hundred over the price of an off the shelf kit, plus I don't have to cough up 7-8 hundred at one time.

I have quite a bit of experience using a Big Shot plate on Big Blocks, but absolutely zero experience with E-85 in the tank.
