Beautiful day here in chicago.I started my car, let it idle for 15 minutes then took a 1 mile drive to the gas station.I filled up, drove about a block to a stop sign and the car died.Still had a strong cranking battery but no start.I`m thinking no spark. What would u try first?
UPDATE!!!!!!!!UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!
This morning i go to the garage.First thing i do is put the battery charger on ,it was run down from trying to start.I check to see if i have power on the ballast and coil both are good.My next move was going to check for spark. As i was about to check for spark the battery became charged so i figured i would just try to turn it over.Boom it fires up and roars like a lion.I let it idle about 10 minutes turned it off and restarted it about 5 times.Seems to be running great.?? I don`t know what to think.

Verify its getting spark and fuel. If it checks out OK there you might take a look at a sample of the fuel, or see if it will fire using starting fluid

Been there done that with a 73 Challenger. Make sure the firewall main harness contacts are not corroded or fried. Then check the ECU box. What color is it?

Check for spark at the plugs.

Are you getting power at the ballast resistor when the key is in the RUN position???????? Check that now. The power for the ignition comes through the firewall (bulkhead) connection block and they are a common failure point on these cars at this age. I even bypassed mine with a separate wire (I don;t like to leave my car on the side of the road or be towed)

Have you pulled a spark plug wire and put an old plug in it and ground it to verify spark? Are you getting power to the coil? check the bulkhead connector? Things to start with that are free.

Ok. with the key turned on jump the starter relay to make it crank and see if it starts. There are 2 start circuits one for run and one for start. It's possible to have fire in the run but not start modes.

Been there, done that. Ballast resistor. OOOPS! I missed the part about replacing the ballast. Never mind.

I had a similar thing happen to my 64 Polara last summer waiting on the road to get into a cruise-in. Car started running a little rough like it was fouling a plug then died. Restarted long enough to get if off the road then died again. My buddy came over and we checked what we could on the roadside, but had to have it towed home. Turned out to be a bad coil (3 month old Accel). Replaced it and everything was fine. Advance stood behind the coil, but of course, did nothing about the $55 tow bill! That's hotroddin', right??

As stupid as it sounds, a few months ago a friend did just that in his old 'stang.

pull the dist cap and spin the motor to make sure the rotor turn if not you have timing chain problem. I had that problem till I decide to pull cap spun the motor rotor didn't move just jiggle sooo I pull the timing cover and saw the cam bolt came lose!
