Good afternoon... When I purchased my 69 Road Runner it had the original pewter seat covers on the rear seat, but the front seat had been recovered in black and feels like it had new seat cushions.

I am to the point of recovering the seats in new pewter covers, but before I do I want to make sure that the front seat frame is for a 69 Road Runner. I cannot find any part number or date stamp on it anywhere. But after consulting my ICCA resources I learned that there should be metal tags in the springs, which I found. The rear seats are correct as I suspected, but the one from the front seat does not match the two line pattern shown in the ICCA book and is stamped as follows:

SS 2858438 M

Anyone have any idea what this may mean, or what car this seat may have come from, or if it might somehow be original to my car?

Thank you in advance for any help anyone might have.

Clay

I believe 68 and 69's are pretty much the same structure and operation. The seat back latch should be on the lower rear at the bottom of the seat back and has a chromed metal latch handle. The 70 bench seat has a plastic push button in the side of the seat back.

What JD says. I couldn't tell my '68 & '69 bench seats apart except for headrests (my pre-1/1/68s didn't have them, they were optional prior to that date). The seatback release will tell you what you have. '68-'69 had a small chrome knob attached to the release lever down by the hinge, as I recall; perfect for rear-seat passengers to trip over, probably why it was relocated for the '70 cars.
