Guys,
I'm looking for some help. I'm working on plan for my next project which will be a 64 Dodge 2 door sedan that I'm wanting to put a 426 Hemi in.
My question is where would you purchase a 426 from & how much would you expect to pay? I'm not looking for a race engine or it being period correct I just want something that has good street manner's.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Billy

1-never use ebay....
2-call around to all the shops that deal in them, get an inventory of what they have for sale. Many have used ones for sale or parts. Call Barton, BGR, FHO, Aruzza, etc...Stay away from Indy directly.
3-Get the money togather and make a deal with one of the shops in person
4-We have one, its possible he might sell it, but don;t see where your located. We intend to hit one TNT with it and see what it will do here in the next week. Entire car is for sale with it....

Do Not Use EBAY! I found people can be very clever with bondo and paint hiding issues with blocks. Also, they can be good at taking pictures at just the right angle to avoid showing issues. Avoid old race parts too.
My recommendation is to get a book or two on building hemis. You will will at least be able to understand several of the options available. There isn't too much that is too different form any other big block. I bought a block, assembled a rotating assembly and had shops balance and machine block. I did my assembly. Folks here on Moparts can get you recommendation for cam. There are several heads out there as well as valve train. Budget at least $20k. I think some diligent purchases and careful planning, you can probably get away for a decent engine for $20k.
Good luck. And don't be afraid to search Moparts and ask questions.

Agreed. I would also ad Dave Dudek to that list.

Just about the price of an LS9 or Hellcat engine with excellent street manners, likely more real hp, 20mpg, and factory warranty. And you can own one tomorrow.
Uh, oh, When does the ground war begin? I don't think people build gen 2 Hemis because they're practical. They build them because that's what they like.

I have had dealings with a bunch of Hemi builders in the last 2-3 years. I will say this Todd Marsh is as good as I've dealt with. My experience with him has been recent. He is as helpful and knowledgeable as they come. I can't say enough good things about him. There are a lot of good guys to deal with in the Hemi world. Just do your homework....
