I have the cheapo chrome cover. It's light, looks decent, and doesn't leak.

My S-60 came with a nice chrome cover, never could keep the bas#*rd from leaking. I ordered a factory Dana cover and all is well.

I cleaned up and painted a stock cover. It even has the tab to help locate the brake line.

That moser cover has the cap supports built in, a stock steel cover is 1/8" thick and thicker only adds weight....tim

If I get a free minute tomorrow, I'll let you know what the weight difference is between the stock one and the Moser. up Maybe someone can get a weight on the LPW cover also for comparison. work

For what it's worth, I think the additional weight of the bearing cap supports is offset by the added strength they provide. twocents

That and the extra weight is pretty much EXACTLY where you want it.

I just weighed an extra stock steel cover with plug on my postal scales. 2 lbs.9 oz.

Moser Rear End Cover for Dana 60

I think if your using a Trans Brake, this is a must, footbraking or occasional trip to the track maybe not but the extra support on those main caps is nice! twocents

The best to get is a thick aluminum cover like the Moser or Ultimate w/ the main cap preloaders. Some cars have issues w/ fitting them if you still have a stock fuel tank. That's the only reason I don't have one...was scared it wouldn't fit.
I just have a typical chrome cover on mine...no issues at all running mid 9s and now high 8s at 3900 lbs for the past 13 years.

IMO if you have to run a cover with a built in brace/cap loading bolts to make your properly set up Dana live you need different rear end. I know several guys running fast heavy cars with trans brakes and stamped covers for years with no problems.

This is true but when I built the Dana in my heavy stick shift car I noticed how thin the factory Dana bearing caps were and in my opinion they need help. I thought to either replace the caps or add some additional support would be a good idea.

I'm almost certain that the stock caps on all the Dana 60 are cast steel just like the center section are,not cast iron that breaks easier work shruggy My current bracket car has Mark Williams steel caps on boths sides with a LPW caluminum cover with the preload bolts, probally way over kill for what I'm doinng with this car shruggy
