That moser cover has the cap supports built in, a stock steel cover is 1/8" thick and thicker only adds weight....tim

Maybe someone can get a weight on the LPW cover also for comparison. For what it's worth, I think the additional weight of the bearing cap supports is offset by the added strength they provide.

That and the extra weight is pretty much EXACTLY where you want it. I just weighed an extra stock steel cover with plug on my postal scales. 2 lbs.9 oz.

The best to get is a thick aluminum cover like the Moser or Ultimate w/ the main cap preloaders. Some cars have issues w/ fitting them if you still have a stock fuel tank. That's the only reason I don't have one...was scared it wouldn't fit. I just have a typical chrome cover on mine...no issues at all running mid 9s and now high 8s at 3900 lbs for the past 13 years.

IMO if you have to run a cover with a built in brace/cap loading bolts to make your properly set up Dana live you need different rear end. I know several guys running fast heavy cars with trans brakes and stamped covers for years with no problems. This is true but when I built the Dana in my heavy stick shift car I noticed how thin the factory Dana bearing caps were and in my opinion they need help. I thought to either replace the caps or add some additional support would be a good idea. Gus
