Mooresville is closed. 1/4 mile is ZMax, Darlington, Fayetteville, and Rockingham. Other than ZMax, the others are a good little drive away. Plenty of 1/8 mile tracks around though.

Yeah, ZMax is not a track for locals really. Mooresville is a good track and will probably be bought and reopened. They have/had a lot of good races there.
Jefferson/Pageland dragstrip isn't too far away. 1/8 mile Shadyside dragstrip, also 1/8 Farmington, Piedmont, among others.
Just FYI...All the regular racing is done 1/8 mile, even at 1/4 mile facilities. It's rare that there is a 1/4 mile run class. If there is, it's usually just a trophy or "street" class. Nothing fast runs 1/4 down here unless you go on test and tune night.

Like Chip said Rockingham races 1/8th though you may test n tune 1/4 most times--Steve Earwood owner is not very big on track prep--you are trouble after you pay until you leave the gate in his opinion--That is how he is known around here and the sand down there is a PIA Mooresville has been bought and I am sure will reopen --it is/was a good place Farmington is a track you can take your Mom to and kids--well run always well prepped--my favorite Piedmont is always well prepped and a good place to run Pageland is the sand thing again and prep is spotty Big darlington was well prepped and long smooth track but has issues with water coming up through cracks--low water table and all--can be great or awful Z Max is a joke when they do let locals on it ( NOT often)--usually slick as Teflon scratch it off your list Fayetteville usually good Atlanta is not a bad hike as it is 50 miles this side of Atlanta in Commerce Ga--always pretty decent long and wide and all BUT...... The BEST track anywhere hands down , maybe on the entire east coast is GALOT formerly Dunn/Benson heated and cooled surface--NHRA stlye prep every time I am told--all of my friends have run personal best at what is the best facility around 710 dragway down east on 74 has recently been ground--is smooth--never crowded--hooked like crazy last time I was there
Mooresville has always been great but in last few years it went to hell and crowd starting shooting and cutting and working the police pretty hard--a darn shame that the wrong folks started showing up--HOPEFULLY it will start fresh and get back to it's old self----needs updates still has Car eater guard rails etc but track was always great when it was run right so lets hope!!

There's also a 1/8 mile track in or near Chester, SC. Not much further out of Charlotte than the others. Haven't been there myself yet, but have heard good things.
