I don't understand why this motor never took off. It has poly style heads SOHC and a high fairly high revving engine. I was thinking about it and was kind of surprised that they never put this in a car around the size of the stratus. (im not sure if the chrysler corp. even has a small RWD platform anywhere in its corporation anymore; I know GM had to goto its australian market to make their new GTO)

If they had a 4.7 rwd car around the size and price of the new mustang that would be an awesome car. I love the new charger, challenger and 300 but they are 30,000-50,000 for the cars with v8s.

By comparison a base model dakota with the 4.7 is 25,000 and a base stratus is around 16,000. If you had a bare bones car with the 4.7 in it I don't see why it couldnt be priced in the mid-low 20k area. With some half decent styling i think that would be one bad arsed car! Then call it a dart, or revive plymouth and call it a barracuda!

Sorry, for the dream and the rant.

Youre not the only one that sees the potential of the 4.7

I agree. It's a real good engine and it's relaible and makes good power. Not too wide or tall.Personally,I think a 4.7 in a early Valiant would be the ticket.

It is a good motor, I love it in my Durango. They're just now really getting around to getting performance parts out for it... too bad they're expensive.

I love it in my Dingo as well. It would be great in an A-body as a peppy driver

With some performance parts available, including supercharger setups, and the fact that this would be a PRIME turbo motor, with its peak tq and hp at higher RPMS and cantered valves. Dome pistons could boost CR and it already has a SOLID bottom end.

Any ideas or reasons the hot rodders never fell for this. SOHC maybe and not a pushrod? That would seem a stretch. Either way, the 08 rams with them made 310hp.

My reasoning why it never took off is because of the buzz of the (then upcoming) 5.7L Hemi and the because of the existing 3.5HO.

A 4.7L Prowler or a "copy" of the IROC Daytona platform would have been cool.

I believe they should have atleast offered the 4.7 in the 300 cars.

My friends 08 Ram, regular cab 4.7 with six speed is quick and fun to drive. It too bad they dropped the six speed in 09.
