I'm working on a 70 'Cuda with factory front and rear sway bars.

Where do I find new mounting bushings that fit the original bars & brackets.
Not the end link bushings, but the ones the hold the bar onto the car. (They're D shaped if I recall correctly.)

I have the 46 year old originals. The old rubber should probably be replaced at some point right?
Can I get polyurethane instead of rubber now?

What do you guys do?

Thanks!
Tav

Widely available - Summit or Jegs. The brand escapes me but they're one of the popular suspension component manufacturers. Do a search on Summit's site. Have fun installing them !!!

Yeah, I imagine the new bushings will be tough to slide over the wider flattened end where the link attaches.

I think its the same bushing used on 72 B-body's 2071572 superseded to 4322580,look on ebag there is a picture,I checked my 70/71 & 72 catalogs & they don't break it down enough just show the retainer, its possible the 73/74 catalogs due,ck.on Partsvoice several dealers have them.

Front

They have a slit or are cut so they just slide over the bar at the attachment point

If you don't care about factory stock

Energy Suspension is the firm I was trying to think of.

This car is more of a driver than a show car, but I did want to keep the original sway bar and not have to switch to an aftermarket bar.
Considering that, those Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings look perfect for my needs.

Bill Meerholz has some cool stuff, but I'll let him keep the NOS bushings for someone who really needs them.

Now, same question for the rear sway bar.
Where do I get the bushings that mount it to the frame rails?
I didn't see them on the Energy Suspension website. (at least not listed under 70 'Cuda)
Any ideas?

Thanks! smile

Heres a link from a past post, not an easy purchase and install but it doesn't appear they were ever intended to be a replacement item.

I have the front bar bushing kit. Easy install.

http://bmcuda.com/ THESE ARE ON HOME PAGE IN FEATURED ITEMS.

YES I KNOW THEY WERE NEVER SERVICED. I had 2 NOS front sway bars one in which I removed one of the bushings in which I had these made. i searched for years to find if serviced. Like everyone else found nothing so opted to have these made.

cataclysm80 I missed the fact you where looking for front & rear mounting bushings,as fare as the rear go I now see why the catalog only shows just the mounting bracket & doesn't break it down further as in showing the bushing separate, from the link aar#2 provided, its a non serviceable bushing & was sold complete bracket & all, from that picture I can see the bracket strap is humped in the middle just like the original 2071572 bushings which retains the bushing in place so I'm willing to bet its the same,I just looked @ my 2 72 B body Dana bars & the width looks the same,I think the later years the bushing was serviceable & the 73/74 catalog {anyone have one & can look it up} will show the bushing separate,I encountered the same for the front bushing no break down of separate parts only the complete bracket, need a picture of front bracket but I think it may take the same bushing also.

IM GOING TOO DRIVE MY SELF CRAZY WITH THIS,If you go to Ebag auction# 270986908519 nos_bill part#s 2071572/4322580 shows picture & states 70/74 Dodge/Ply challenger cuda & gtx front & rear stabilizer bar.Strange thing is RockAuto shows a different part#s these bushings are all over the board, looked up 71 Dodge/Ply B/E body,ok hang in there Moog part# K5241 tall bushing 15/16 hole Mopar# 2269709 associated with it,then typed in Mopar part# 2071572 in part# search box BAM 3 hits all Moog#s K5227 tall bushing smaller hole K7096 Mopar# 4322580 also associated tall bushing larger hole & K5242 shorter bushing smaller hole all for Approx. $4-$7 a set, measure your bar determine the size look @ pictures on RA the bushings are out there make your best educated decision & order if your wrong on the hole size it's only a couple of bucks to order another set.

The ones listed on the eBay auction are shorter than the original/correct ones needed for an E Body and will leave a gap on the bottom between the bushing and the mounting plate. If you look on Bill Meerholz site under fastners and hardware, you will see the bushings Bill has made and the correct height.

BME 70/74E & 71/72B front bushing is very tall & a different part# 2535987 that doesn't come up anywhere yet possibly in 73/74 catalog.

The tall bushing that Bill sells, from what I have been told and seen, was never serviced/available from Chrysler by itself. You needed to purchase a complete front sway bar and they would have the 2 bushings already installed.I have had 2 like this over the years and could not find the bushing part number ever listed in any of the catalogs.

Maybe this link will help with part #'s for the rear? The owner of this Challenger modified some bushings to fit the rear. I don't know if he used the original straps or if he welded the new straps onto the original frame bracket.

I actually purchased his original bushings to replace mine.

The rear bar bushings in the link burdar provided look like the shorter ones on Ebag with the hump in the middle & the Moog K5242,burdur do you recall the part# on the bushings.
