I posted this in the truck section but I did not get any responses. I think I have a better chance with you racers. I use to tow my race car on an open trailer with my 2004 Ram 1/4 ton with a Hemi. Eventually I added 2 ton air bags to the rear suspension and it towed a lot better. I just bought a 2016 Ram 1/4 ton with another Hemi. It has coil rear springs instead of the leaf springs. I have a choice of either 1 ton or 5 ton air bags for it. The car and trailer weigh 4800 lbs. Which air bags would you suggest.

Thanks Raul

If you need air bags to help hold the rear of the truck up while towing that little bit on weight, I think you have too much tongue weight on the trailer.

I say that because my trailer and car weigh about the same as yours and I use a 2011 1500 1/2 ton, same suspension as you have, also not sure where you get 1/4 ton from, but I don't have any problem at all. Now I can tell you if I get the car too far forward on the open trailer, it will sway a little bit, but that is my fault. I need to make a stop on the floor of the trailer to get the car in the right spot. Just my 2 cents.

I think the one ton should be good. Your ball weight will only be around 600-700 with the open trailer. I like to have a good tongue weight. To me you have better control of the trailer.

I tow a 32 ft inclosed trailer loaded and only use 1 ton air bags, but I also use torsion bars

I agree with the 1 ton recommendation. The coil suspension rides nice, but it seems to squat pretty good with the smallest of loads, so I'd use them as well.

Thanks for the advice. I will give the 1 ton kit a try.
