I'm picking up my "new" Challenger R/T SE this weekend. At some point in its life, someone changed the blue interior to black. Since it's B5 blue w/ a white top/stripes, I am thinking of changing the interior back to blue.

How hard is it to find blue interior parts? I know I can get seat covers, carpet, panels etc pretty easily. But things like the console, overhead console/headliner, A/C vents, window trim etc are more what I am concerned about finding. Or would I be better off stripping and repainting the black parts?

Consider having a dye made based on one of your good interior pieces, and dye everything.

If you find a console of a different color, that blue will cover well, you don't have to be particular and can shop for a deal.

I was able to find a tan 70 challenger 4 speed console for half of what black ones go for. It will be easy to cover with the burnt orange dye.

Also, Dante told me the better way to go is to dye all your interior pieces anyhow, rather than deal with different manufacture dates on the pieces you buy, which may have slightly different shades anyhow.

The paint supply store for my RT took one of my visors and matched it. The actually sent it off to a company who does it. I have a sand color headliner ordered, and it will be installed after installation.

You should be able to find blue pieces at a pretty good price at swap meets, and Moparts. My recent wanted request was successful.

Buy the good repo blue door panels now if you can find some

Everything else you can dye / paint

The hard part might be the head liner

I would spray dye the interior pieces I can't readily find or replace, fresh NEW panels are always a plus in a resto, if your going to spray, do it with a gun, SEM considered at the minimum, with Dupont or PPG spray dye being the best consideration, you have to ask yourself if you desire the interior all one uniform color, or if your dead set on a stock OEM resto, various panels should be of a different hue/shade, as multible vendors supplied different panels and the colors were not uniform, often times way off in match, something to consider?

Car is basically stock, but not #'s matching. A few small things have been changed like exhaust and such. The biggest change was to the black interior which is well done. If it's going to cost a small fortune to change it back to blue, I'll keep it black for a while. If I do decide to go back to blue, then I'm not looking to do a the OEM resto - just make it look correct and nice. I'm not worried about getting new panels and such as opposed to originals.

Buy the panels NOW - better than regretting it later

I have a B5 interior in my Challenger. Kick Panels are easier to find. Buy repro door panels. Paint everything at once so it all matches.
Some items take dye/paint easier and are more durable. Console takes paint well.
I have a set of deluxe blue seat belts. PM me if you need those.

Should any parts of a blue interior be black?

Not on a car with A62

Without A62 the steering column would be black - don't ask me why

So the black heater/AC control panel in the pic should be blue and not black?

Hi Erik,
Nice find, I believe that the a/c & radio bezel should be black. Also some steering columns are black. I am doing a Green interior cuda and I think that rallye cluster had colored column and standard clusters get black column. But not in stone.
Good luck Bob

Mom & Dad let me buy a brand new 70 Challenger R/T 440 Six-Pack Super Trac Pack when I was 17

(Robert what is a 440 Six-Pack)

The dash fascia/control panels will be black, steering columns are sometimes a shot in the dark, generally accepted that usually rallye dash cars had color matched columns, and standard dash cars had black columns....but never say never with Ma Mopar. I've had a 70 B5 Challenger /6 with B5 interior, color matched blue column and steering pad with a standard dash, I've had an F8 70 Cuda with F8 interior, color matched column and steering wheel pad and standard dash, I've also had a 70 B5 Barracuda with B5 interior, black column, standard dash, and also a B5 Cuda 70 model with ralley dash, blue interior, black column...really no method to the madness? that I know of?

Have a look at this link. It's of Dave Walden's Challenger. It should give you an idea of what the blue interior should look like. Not everything is the same shade.

iagree No matter what interior color you had on an E-body, the vertical radio and heater pieces were black.
