I've put on a new fuel pump and fuel filter. As can be seen in the video the hose from the filter to the carb is too big. I'm showing the hose bit that came with the filter in the beginning of the video. What would be best here, get a smaller hose (will it fit the carb) or put the bit that came with the filter on and use some sort of connector?

1973 Dodge Charger SE 400 automatic transmission. Curb weight: 3800 lbs. All stock so far. Goal: Reliable everday driveable warmed up 400 as close to 400hp as possible, then a 470 stroker if need be. Don't protect a feminist when the collapse comes!

go get the right size filter? that inlet looks pretty small. the little piece that came with the filter is for going from filter to hard line.

you might be able to cut a 1/2 inch off your existing line to get a better fit. the rubber lines kinda stretch out and conform to what they were on.

First check if the hoses are all correct... 3/8 or 5/16.... which is spec for your ride??... is there a mismatch.... then .. is your new fuel pump output threaded so you can choose a barb to be conducive to your line size up to the carb,,, from "barb to carb" drumhit should be all one size.... the difference might not seem much (5/16 to 3/8) but its like the difference between your honeymoon night and the 20th anniversary!!...... shruggy

Your trying to install a 3/8" hose onto a 5/16" fuel filter

Just buy some 5/16" fuel hose to run from filter to carb

Let's see your inlet barb into carb for size and fit

Anyways

Honeymoon versus 20 years - I hope I can make it to twenty years let alone have

Here is a picture of the old and the new filter. The old filter is slightly bigger, not by much though, maybe 1/8". I've tried cutting a bit more off the end of the hose and now there is resistance when I put it on, not super tight like the others but snug enough so that I can lift it up by the hose. Would this not be good enough if i tighten the clamp extra snug?

Here's the filter type
