Really slick. Beats helicoil

I used one to repair the frame bolt hole for the front bumper on my brothers Charger.I agree,Much better than a heli-coil.

Every thread replacement system has its place.

My experience with a TimeSert was when I pulled the spark plugs out of an outboard engine and the inserts came with the plugs, and it wasn't even moderately hard to get them out. I imagine there was a problem with the initial installation. I slapped them in with red Loctite and off it went.

I've been very happy using Helicoils on aluminum cylinder heads and iron exhaust manifolds.

I haven't used any other type.

It isn't obvious, but the deepest thread in the hole hardly sees any load. This has to do with the elastic deformation of the bolt and the surrounding material. So having an insert is one piece isn't necessarily better.

Your mileage may vary. Truth is, most of the systems work well enough that you can twist off the bolt before the repair fails.

R.

I have used them for years to repair the spark plug threads in billet hemi heads that were used with screw super chargers that made 60 pounds of boost.

TimeSerts are really nice. I like them better than the cheaper/quicker helicoils.

The big bonus is that they offer BigSerts that will replace a damaged thread that has been improperly repaired. We had a tech overdrill a hole for a repair. The helicoil would drop into the hole without grabbing. I ordered some BigSerts and was able to put an oversize insert into the hole that accepted the much smaller original bolt.
