I've been scratching my head on what is the best routing for RB/BB plug wires when using headers. The number 1 and 2 header tubes go above #3 and #4 and then down between 5-7 and 6-8. The front two plug wires on both sides are pretty easy to route from below the front tube, but the back cylinders are more of a challenge. It looks like the best route would be over the top of the valve covers. If so, how do you support them and keep them off the header tubes? The other option is to route them wide of the headers and lay them against/on top of the steering box and shock towers. This does not look very "neat" to me.

How about showing some pictures of how you have routed and supported your plug wires to give me some ideas. I'd like the plug wires to look neat and orderly, but the stock routing is not an option with headers.

I run a set of looms from Summit.I think they are something like RJS ot like that. They go on top of the vcover at the bottom and wires go from 4 to 1 in the back.they are aluminum and do a nice job.Ran them on our cars all with headers.last set of wires was on 15 years.I did run a thermal sock on 7 because it was close. My 2 inch TTIs fit nicely with the looms and Taylor stock 440 lug wires.Rocky

Not mine, but very cool. Number 8 wire needs to be a couple inches longer. They are sold two different ways, horizontal or vertical.

In relation to the OP's question: Does anyone know where to get the wire #'s for the wires? I think they clip on to the wire

Carnut has the pic posted. The looms are super nice.Mine have been on well over 15 years and they come with spacers to raise or lower the loom.Wires stay nice and tight in the holders with allen screws.Well worth the $$$.They even come in colors. We have run them on BBs and SBs with headers. Rocky

Thanks for posting all the pictures. You guys do nice work. This will give me some ideas if I get a chance to work on the car this weekend.

For me it depends on the wires and if the car has headers and what brand of headers. On my sons 400 with CPPA headers we ran the #5 & #7 wires along the intake at the top of the valve cover and around as the #7 wire was a 90 degree end. So was the #8 wire which we also ran along the intake at the top of the valve cover. Ron

On my 440/493 in my 63 with TTI headers the Firecore wires are all 45 degree ends and they woked good running all of them around the front of the eng and along the side. Ron

383man-They both look good! Least it gives me some ideas as well. I need to source the wire identifiers (number for each wire)

The best I can tell you is on my sons Dart (the blue wires) they are Taylor wires. And the black wires on my 63 are Firecore. I like both as they both worked good for us. And thanks for the kind words.

Thought I should update this post on what I ended up doing with my plug wires. I appreciate all the people that took the time to post a picture of their engines. It gave me some good ideas. I wound up routing the front two cylinders on both sides below the headers, and the back two above the headers. I put heat sleeves on 5 & 6 since they run fairly close to the header tubes. I used Spectra wire separators and made aluminum brackets that mounted to the valve cover bolts. The Taylor universal wire set was plenty long to allow routing of your choice. I'm happy with the result for what I have invested in it. Thanks for your help.

PS Don't mind the burnt header paint. That's a victim of breaking in a new cam. Probably take them off this winter and try again.
