Ok on the new Master Cylinder there is a Piston Retainer !! Does that stay on or do you remove before installing MC.

Thanks for the reply, I found my problem ,I took if off thinking that it was just to hold piston in place for shipping

I think you are Right !! I believe it is to stops the piston from coming to far out when the Brake Padel returns up

If it's manual brakes, that's where a retainer bolts. Not sure about power though.

THere is a retainer with a boot that bolts to that position, take it off and use the proper parts!

OP never stated if it's a manual or power brake car. The keeper can remain in place either way, lots of us run manual with no pushrod bellows.
