Hi guys and gals I use my Satellite for tent camping trips and am in need of more luggage room. My friend is interested in joining me and she doesn't have a car and I can't afford a trailer. So I was wondering if anyone has ever put a roof rack on their car and what type you used? My sig has a pic of the satellite in question. I have found a few mounts that might work but I want to get more info to help my choices.

I put a u haul roof rack on my barracuda. Was packed and heavy. The rack itself didn't cause any damage. I was careful hooking it on the drip rails.

The weight I put in it and absolutely stuff in every corner inside the car did cause it to bottom out and break a k-member LCA hole. I don't run LCA bumpers as my car is too lowered for them. i should have raised the front ride height. Although I did add air shocks pumped up to the max.

All that on the ground was in the car top carrier. Including the 4 rims, Kirby vacuum cleaner, metal billboard, etc. etc.

Actually the trunk is full and so is the back seat. In the trunk are 2 large totes with kitchen and camp gear, 2 chairs dining fly, shower/toilet tent, camp stove/grill and lanterns plus a 3 man tent. The backseat has a folding table, ice chest, dry goods clothes bag and sleeping plus pillow and camera bag. I am changing to a larger tent to be able to use cots to sleep on as she has trouble sleeping on the ground. I need to also have room for her walker.

My Dad used one years ago when we went on long trips. The frame work is made of light weight angle iron. It has 4 'feet' with suction cups on them. The rack is secured with metal clips that hooked onto the edge of the drip rail that had straps that went to the framework to tighten it down. I think the suction cups were to prevent movement once secured and to prevent marring the top.

It worked fine although it's possible the clips could have done some damage to the drip rail molding. I still have it in my garage but the clips and straps have gotten lost over the years and the suction cups have gotten hard.
