Excuse me if these questions have been asked a million times, but my dad just purchased a 71 D100. It has power drum brakes.

1) Are there any options for an affordable, easy to locate, front disc brake conversion?

2) Does anyone make reproduction brake boosters? His is shot and I can't seem to find one anywhere else. Will a booster from another application work?

Thanks!

1) https://scarebird.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=64&product_id=117

2) Why not just rebuild his booster? Lots of online rebuilders or there might be a local rebuilder.

Thanks for that link. I had no idea they were making those brackets for trucks too. My knowledge lies mostly with A-bodies.

I also had no idea brake boosters could be rebuilt. Would it be worth rebuilding if converting to discs?

My 16 year old son used the scarebird brackets to convert his truck to disks...was an easy swap.

FWIW Autozone lists a reman booster and booster + master available for online shipment or order. Rock Auto may list one as well.

When switching to discs its probably best to get a disc/drum master. Maybe folks who have made the swap or Scarebird have some advice on a compatible master.

I put the Scarebird kit on my '71 D100 in 2011, have't touched them since. The mix of parts has never given me any problems, and I'll be getting a conversion for the '67 Coronet when it starts going back together.

Can you use the factory drum brake booster with a front disc master?

Maybe... it depends. First question is does the master bolt up and is the pushrod the right length?

If it does bolt up and work is there enough braake line pressure for the front discs? It depends in part on the piston area of the front calipers used and also on the master diameter.

I made the front disc swap on a car with drum booster and small piston area aftermarket front calipers. It worked OK on the street but I could not get max effort braking. With my setup, a double diaphragm 8" booster and smaller 15/16" diameter master was needed for full "stop power".

Hopefully somebody who has made this swap on a PU will comment or Scarebird will have some suggestions.
