roll through water in 1st gear, get to edge and roll tires over slightly to get wet, put in neutral and wait for guy to flag me on. He says go, i set line lock, place in 2nd gear, take to 6000rpm (if track looks so so ill go 2nd/3rd ) release line lock and roll out

why even bother with 2nd gear?most cars would have the power to do a 3rd only and smoke them acording to what holds at the track/whaqt tires like.

I usually start my burnout in third gear too.

The point that needs to be said here is no 1/2 shift in the water box-That can damage the overrunning clutch /sprag in the trans-- start your burnout in second or third gear.

I would think that backing into the burnout box makes more sense than rolling through. When you roll through, your front tires are going to put down a trail of water directly in front of your slicks (??)

same way for me, the way i was taught. Somebody else said it, stay away from 1st gear and you'll be fine.

So what is the best way to do it if you have a stock valve body in the tranny?

Most of the tracks, at least out west, don't
allow enough space to "drive around" the water
box to avoid getting your front tires wet.

Thats true Cab as the water runs off to the side at most decent tracks.I have my crew lay towels in front of the car to dry them off

I do my burnouts in third also. Much easier to control rpm. Also if you have to go to neutral after the burnout, do it before you get close to the tree. You need to roll the car a few feet in first to set the sprag.

I dont even bother with 2nd anymore... just high gear
and hit the pedal PRETTY good then take it to about
6000 and let the line lock go and start burning out
till I feel the car shutter(tires are bitting) then
off the pedal and on the brakes. Most of the companies
want you to do a good burnout the first time with new
tires then just a moderate to light burn from there on

So as long as I start the burn out in manual 1st and manually shift up it should be just fine? I take it you don't want to do the burnout in drive and let the tranny automaticly shift itself, is that correct?
