A 74 D 100 could have been a pretty light duty truck. A standard cab, slant 6, 3 speed manual, with the standard suspension would not have come with 235 x 75 x 15 tires., maybe an F 78 x 15 or a G 78 x 15, and those tires fit on a pretty narrow wheel. I though I remembered something about a 15" x 6" wheel, but a 5.5" wide would not have been out of the realm of possibilities. You would probably need an owners manual, or a sales brochure to be sure, but I know many truck wheels were more narrow then a 15" x 7".
I have no proof though, I have a FSM for 74 Dodge trucks, but I don't see any reference for wheel width. Gene

15X7 would not have been standard let alone common on a half ton. Maybe on a LRE Neither would a 235 75 15 as mentioned. I have 235 75 15 tires on stock rims on a 78 D150 and they fit and look fine. I have 215 75 15 on my B 200 van and think they should be bigger. I would suspect the 5.5 to be correct. I have a lot of old 15" rims and all are 15 X 5.5 or 6 A 7 inch rim was where the after market rims started to get bigger in the 70's
The word of the day was the tire should be no more than 3"s wider then the wheel. Most folks chose to disregard this advice. So a short 10 inch tire on a 7" rim was common. From what I have read recently, radials could go wider and the 3" rule was for bias tires.
I had some 10 inch wide BFGs on stock 14 X 5.5 rims. The looked swollen but fit fine in the back of my 68 Fury. Those had small wheel wells.
I have mechanical Aptitude. I can screw up anything.
