Does any one know if they make a metal reinforced housing gasket? I was told from a friend that he can get one for his ford 9"

to go between housing and chunk to keep gasket from squeezing out. He says he reuses his several times, with no messy silicon to clean up or wait to dry.

Jim Cox used to sell a reusable gasket for the 8-3/4, but it was a foamy material. I used one for awhile, but I normally just use grey silicone.

I just put a bead of Mopar black silicone around
the whole thing(around the studs and all).. let it
set for a little bit then put the pig in place and
tighten the nuts with my fingers but try to make it
look even all around... then a few hours later tighten
them down... it dont leak... been doing that for years
and all I use is 8 3/4 and now a 9" also... on the 9" I
put a bead of the same stuff and put the gasket on.. another
bead and let it set then put the pig on and snugged with my
finger as normal then later tighten it up... its dry as a bone
on the 9" also
wave

'bout time there's something re-usable on the market.

I've been thinking about having a bunch of gaskets watercut from something tearresistant and durable, but till now always resorted to using silicon liquidgasket.
But the amount og time required to clean/degrease and apply the RTV and final torquing later on, could be well spend on other things.

That's my thinking too. This all came up when my buddy was at the track and broke a ring gear on his 9". He had it fixed between rounds. With the 8 3/4 prone it would be nice to have a quick way to fix it.

You carry a spare ring & pinion in your race box?

I have helped 2 of my buddies change 8-3/4 pigs at the track. Took less than an hour each time. Yes, they carried spare pigs, and both were one broken tooth out of the ring gear.

Napa used to sell a "Tuff-Cork" reusable 8.75" third-member gasket with a steel center. I think it was made by Victor.

i thrashed my 8 3/4 in my 'cuda for a decade. when it finally broke a cap i did this. the Mark Williams fix hadn't been invented then. as yet i haven't had a failure since. a cap for a cap.

Does it fit the housing without issue?

Summit lists only one re-usable gasket, but no mention of a steelcore.
