changing to solid cam in small block #209554

changing from a hyd. to a solid cam in my 416. do you guys thing there are any changes nessary, other than the obivious, pushrods sprigns etc. seems like i remeber seeing somewhere that you should put the oil crossover thing in the valley if running a solid. any thoughts?

You do not need to do that.

You do not need to do that with a flat tappet cam.




that mod isnt a bad idea but its not necessary. its not a solid vs hyd cam mod. its an oiling mod. i didnt do it on my sb with a solid cam

not required. #1 is to check your p/v clearance/coil bind/rocker geometry. Oiling mods will benefit you especially in a higher rpm eng but nothing is required just for the changover.

thanks for the info. what rpm is considered high enough need the oil crossover?

now that you asked here's a link to one of the countries foremost SB oiling experts, It'll take you ~3 hours to absorb/get thru it. go to www.moparchat.com then scroll down to & click on "circle track chat" & it is Sanborns oiling mods that are in a sticky at the top(for good reason). Enjoy! PS his cooling mods are just as advanced & both can be adapted to BB's as well.

Rocker arms and push rods will be different unless you already have adjustable rockers then only the push rods will be longer with a solid lifter. Springs will be fine unless you are going to a bigger cam. Then use springs rated for the cam being used.
