No need to take them apart. Clean them well first to get all the grease out then blast them and clean again then paint. Unless you go nuts with the paint it won't affect the rollers (there are only 2).

So you don't grease rollers/bearings after cleaning ? ?

The slides on my Challenger were in really good shape. I just degreased them very good and sprayed them with another layer of paint. I didn't even need to strip them. Then I sprayed white grease inside after the paint was dry. My Dart was another story. The slides were in very bad shape. Those I had to take apart. It required removing one of the rivets on the lower section in order to get everything apart. I ended up replacing the rivet with a very short allen head bolt.

So to seperate top from bottom you have to grind off rivet . .

Yes, on my Dart slides, you have to remove a rivet to get the two halves apart. I assume a Challenger slide is similar. If you look at the far left of my picture, you can see where I drilled the rivet. There is a bolt that sticks out the top of the upper half of the slide on the left. The head of that bolt will hit the rivet if the rivet isn't removed. Once removed, the upper half can slide off to the left since there is not captured bolt on the right side.

I lube them after painting. I use a spray "wire rope lube", it goes on like water then the thinner evaporates leaving a film of clear lube. I don't see the point in slopping these up with gobs of grease.

I agree , it's not like you are constantly sliding them back and forth unless the car has multiple drivers of varying heights.
