Also since my lifter says its a .904 what is the actual ID on the lifter bushing suppose to be?

Thanks

The I.D was .9045 when finished

Lifter bushings are actually Bronze and there are a few different grades of bronze. Do a search for Bronze Bushings and you will find many manufacturers. Boston, National, Reliable, Ampco, etc. Also any local industrial supply store will have or can get them. You can even get leaded bronze which is tough as #### but may wear the lifter face. A 1" o.d. bushing will actually be a couple thou over and the I.D. will be under, probably .876-8 and then finish hone to fit (press/clearance). I use bronze bushings in alot of machine designs but nothing that would see the surface speed of a lifter. Maybe one of the professional shops will share exactly what grade they use.

The bushings do not come in finished size like you are asking for . you do realize this is a very delicate operation that has to be preformed very accurately ?

Yes i know. And why i said brass i dont know. Just a quick typing error i guess.

my engine has bronze guides in it but they are for a .840 GM lifter..... (Dont get my started why that was done)

And it is seeming to me it is actually cheaper to put new Bronze guides in then actually boring out the .840 ones to the .904 i need.

From what I remember most bushings are ampco 45.
Not that that matters.
If your bushings are under size I would press them out then open them up to .904. Install them and give them a quick hone for finish sizing.

Usually only the high end stuff like Jesel bushings are Ampco 45.

I talked to CHE @ PRI he uses some other alloy for his, he told me what it was but I forget, it's comparable to A45 in strength & wear ability but less $. I would recommend his bushings as pricing was very reasonable & CHE quality is excellent.

Alot of shops use bushings from BHJ.

I've used at least 4 different manufacturers bushings before... all have their advantages & disadvantages.

Usually you bore the block to 1.000" & run a 1.002" bushing.... The finished ID after press fit into block will just depend on manufacturer. Most leave around .004-.005" to bore/hone out.

Are you running a flat tappet cam ? Even if you knock out the old bushings and put in new they will need to be final sized .

I had a set of .875's put in a block and brought out to .904 , wasn't that expensive ...

I stock the BHJ bushings here. Let me know if you need some.

They are 1.00 OD and .9035 ID, slight hone required after install.
