Do you have an ohm meter and know how to use it?

Cause I'm thinking the green wire might be shorted to ground.

Disconnect the battery, negative cable first, then measure the green wire to ground. Unplug VR first.

Don't be the exception.

can I persuade you to pull all the wires & jumper everything? (including ground paths). A pair of bullet connectors on the reg nubs are a good plan as they are close together/hard to access & you for sure dont want an alligator clip to come loose & touch the other! this'll elim the hard components

connect green wire alt field terminal to side reg terminal....what is side reg terminal???

the side terminal is the one the green wire is on in the triangle connector

So as an update, new connector, fixed the splices the right way, now it charges normally.

Thanks.

ok did this and tried a different ign switch...........still overcharging????? i would assume now it has to be something under the dash since ive eliminated everything else......

You jumpered EVERYTHING & it is still overcharging? If so then it has to be one of the hard components: alt/batt/reg. holler back. EDIT & you are bypassing the ign sw/bulkhead "everything" completely when jumpering directly to batt positive post (for the blue wire feeds)

the "creeping up" that it is doing is puzzling. that ain't making sense tho it does make me think batt or alt espec batt. we have covered everything that I can think of: hard parts/bypassed wiring. which means it is something we have covered but missed/misdiagnosed. any possibility you could try another gauge or meter (I'm kinda grasping at straws but we'll get it, it just might take some (more) time). my email is in my profile
