The factory recommends setting the distance between the throwout fork and its pushrod at 5/32". (I use a #21 drill bit as a gauge)

My preference is to pull the inspection cover and adjust the throwout bearing slightly off of the pressure plate. Adjusting free play to a spec up above @ the pedal may have been acceptable in a new car with new linkage but not for a 40 year old muscle car that has worn linkage...

Just my $0.02..

John, can you explain this procedure in a little more detail please?

There is a nut and washer on the fork end of the pushrod, just turn the nut until you get 5/32" between that nut and the flat washer when pulling the fork to the rear against its spring.

When adjusting clutch linkage 2 things are important.

The throwout bearing should be clear off the pressure plate fingers. Cover off and inspection is the best method here. Advice like 1" freeplay or 1 1/2" freeplay is just a huge saftey net for that adjustment. Major freeplay guarantees the bearing is clear but it's also wasted pedal throw which is important to quick shifting. Once the bearing is clear adding an inch to that just requires you to push in the pedal to disengage the disc. Tight is better. Alot of late model cars do not even run any clearance. Some are even preloaded against the fingers.

The other adjustment which is usually fine unless you have HUGE freeplay or some bad geometry in the linkage is disc clearance. The 0.060 62Max has shown is good. Anymore is just wasted clearance.

Unfortunately, I'm long since cleaned out of those NOS Moapr swivels. A Chevy rocker arm ball can work, just double-nut it.

By the way, with any clutch release bearing made in the last 20 years or so (high-precision /sealed), it is perfectly OK to set the free play at ZERO (or even a very small amount "negative"). (This comes stright from Chrysler engineering). This really improves clutch operation and feel, but you may want to make a pedal stop to prevent over-release. Alternately, I have moved the pedal up-stop down so the pedal is about 1" lower at rest, this is REALLY a nice upgrade.
