I currently replaced my intake on my 383 stroker to a holley street dominator. I am having issues with hood clearance with the factory air grabber setup. My car original came with a/c which I am still running. Since a/c cars never had air grabbers someone has added it along the way.

I have the 383 air cleaner base, but it lightly rubs on the top of the air grabber setup. Probably in six areas of the air cleaner lid. Can anyone make some recommendations. My car also has the factory performance stripe package. Here are my options.

1. Purchase a 440 air grabber base, not sure how much lower it will be. I think 1/2 inch. I would have to cut the front of the base to clear the a/c lines and also the billet msd distributor.

2. Remove the air grabber setup and install the hood insulation with the mopar performance air cleaner. Not sure if this will clear. Mancini sells a drop base plate but it doesn't work with a Holley double pumper.

3. Run my current setup with the 383 air grabber air cleaner with the six pack hood. The issue here is how good will it look with the factory performance stripes with the black hood.

4. Run the current air grabber air cleaner and remove the air grabber hood components. Is it okay to leave the hood inserts with the open mesh?

If anyone has any pics of this same setup please send them to me.

Not sure which setup will give the best hood clearance? I would think number 3.

Factory performance stripes are on the hood, are you talking about adding the 6 pk scoop to the factory road runner hood ?? That would look very odd and ruin a good hood.

You need a lower air cleaner, I told you that the last time you brought this up. The 440 air cleaner base might work but you will pay a lot for an air cleaner and then you are going to ruin it by notching it for the A/C compressor ... not a money smart idea.

Modify the air cleaner base you have since it has already been notched.

I think you should be able to cut the neck of the air cleaner down. A lot better idea to chop up a 383 air cleaner than a 440 air cleaner. Trust me, those are really hard to get and expensive. You could probably buy a fiberglass repro if you want one to chop up

YEEEEEESH!!!! Don't cut ANYTHING!!! They ain't making em old anymore. There's a member here named Paint It Black. Steve. His website is http://www.hybrid-fiberglass-solutions.com. He can build you a beautiful fiberglass drop base for that air grabber so that the Holley intake fits under your air grabber. If you want to get away with AC, dump the giant boat anchor compressor and go with a Sanden 508. You can get brackets for it through Bouchillon Performance. Super light weight and will clear that big air cleaner. On the distributor side, ditch the thing and order a FireCore distributor from Sunroof GTX (also a member here). They are stock dimensions but have all the electronics inside. No box to deal with. Then everything fits and looks pretty. Sell that base to someone who needs OEM.

Thanks for the link. I do have a Firecore distributor, and I am running the Bouchillon AC setup. I like running the MSD box because of the rev-limiter. Will the fiberglass not warp with heat?

Steve's bases are really thick. I don't think you'd have a worry but call him. He's a really good guy. Sorry. I misread your post. I thought you had an MSD distributor that was sticking up too high. Maybe consider mounting the AL6 on the fender?Sounds like your are really close. Bouchillon advertises their bracket and the 508 to fit happily with the air grabber and I know I've seen photos. I know that Steve will do custom tweaks for you. He's even done a base to fit on a 440 with Edelbrock RPM intake, albeit the thing required a 4 inch air cleaner!
