Power Nation/Engine Power is building a 512" stroker.

Anyone know what cam they are using? Web page just says custom Comp Cams Hydraulic roller?

This is supposed to be using the trick Flow heads, and the parts listing have mention of using a Quick Flow 950 carb and the Go-EFI8 - 1200 HP TBI EFI?

Should make good power without a lot of rpm.

The "512" that's really a 505, if you go by what they said the bore and stroke is(4.350 x 4.250).

Based on what they said the lift was going to be(mid-.600's as I recall) my guess is it's either going to get higher than stock rocker ratio, or is using a "hydrid" lobe design that's really a solid roller profile that can be run with hyd roller lifters....... Or maybe both.

Yep. I was yelling at the tv. "IT'S A 505 YOU IDIOTS!

Surprising since the older dude is pretty sharp.

They skipped a week and run a pig of a 390 Ford this last episode...

If I remember right it was in the .660 lift range. Didn't catch duration. But I'm old and forgetful too.

Yeh, one of my buddies was mentioning the 390 ford was kind of a mutt for the sum of the parts that were used.
They did a 350 Pontiac last year that was also pretty weak.

What would make what I would consider an interesting episode is to take one of these previous underwhelming builds and do some old school hop up mods to get the numbers up.
Take that 350 Pontiac, put in a bigger cam, pocket port the heads, different intake manifold, etc. something other than just putting a set of edelbrock heads on it.
Maybe rework the stock heads, then install the edelbrock heads afterward to see how much better they are.

Carb did much better than the FiTech fuel injection.

Thoughts on that?

While I was watching the show I was thinking a carb would have made more power, but didn't think they'd try it.

The throttle response of the efi didn't look too good.

My guess for why it made less power is the a/f ratio the efi was chasing wasn't optimum for that combo and the carb was just closer to being "right".

It's a different dyno, so a true apples to apples comparison it's not..... But I tested a street 505 last fall. Rpm heads with a little clean up(way less flow than the TF's), xs290s solid cam with 1.5's, 6bbl.
Made 645tq/590hp.

I would have thought with the TF heads and intake manifold it would have made closer to 650hp, not to mention the extra .100 lift from the hyd roller they used.

I suppose with the carb on it the numbers were pretty close to what I would have expected, and the difference could just be the dyno.

I watched that this morning, loved the overhead view of the FiTech at full throttle but it was definitely down on power compared to the carb. I wonder how much tuning was done with the FiTech.

I don't think they did any tuning just a timing change because they said the EFI was self learning.

The pump gas 470 engine with Trick Flow heads that Mopar Action did made a lot more power. Maybe Mopar Action should challenge Power Nation to a dyno shootout?

It is amazing that those monkeys can throw together available parts and make decent numbers. They haven't in the past...

It is just an advertising tool for the manufacturers.

I thought the second part airs next week?
I re-watched the first episode and they said the cam is a custom grind Comp hydraulic roller with 252/262 duration @ 0.050, 0.640" intake, 0.672" exhaust (no rocker ratio mentioned?), and 112 LSA installed at 112 intake centerline. Not sure who they did not advance the cam?
