Every time I start my 1983 dodge dually,the first crank is slow like the timing is off but the timing isnt.my lights are bright and it does start every time.my amp gauge never moves.I removed the battery while it was running and the gauge still didnt moved.I unplugged the voltage reg and it still did not move.wth is going on with this thing?

The 81-90 ammeter are basically decorations.

Unplugging the battery and or the regulator isn't a heart way to diagnose anything.

Get a hand held voltmeter and do some testing on the starter cables and ground cable.

Yes that is a shunt type amp gauge which means it only carries about 1/10 of the load as the other 9/10's of current goes through the shunt wire. And it is right that they usually hardly ever moved any. Not very good for watching the charging system. Do like was suggested and put a voltmeter on the vehicle and test the charging sytem. Ron
