Lost a lot of weight, yeah? What other updates? Since Drag Week Lost 140lbs Coilover conversion in front Lower rear leaf springs DA vikings on rear Swapped to 904 from 727 and gear vendor Swapped 4.10 gears to 3.73 Changed from .065 wall 3" exhaust and bullets to .050 wall SS 3.5 exhaust with split flow muffs Was running a 9" that was behind my 720hp 493 to an 8" 53-5500 stall Best it ran at drag week was a 10.08 @134 but it was heavier than my 9.88 pass because of GV and leafsprings

727 to 904 swap is said to be worth about .15 alone, converter should help as with all the weight loss.

I hope it is as fast as it feels. When will you be getting some track time to get your license?

Would a 904 be a poor choice for a heavy car like a charger? ( 3600 lbs) according to John Cope, 904 is a poor choice period. I understand that some customers understand what they are asking for while other customers can be jerks. If my trans breaks, I am not going to be trashing Cope for building me a piece of junk. They are just a lot weaker than a 727. but faster

9.69?????? I'll tell you what we found. My Son was going 10.50's with his 360 engine at 3200 pounds with a 904 transmission and a 5600 stall converter. We installed the CRT 727 that came with my Duster after Matt broke his second 904 converter hub but at the time I only had a 4000 stall converter. The Duster slowed .50 in the 1/4 mile. I bought 2 converters from a Moparts member in a package deal and both were just freshened. We installed the one that the seller said should be in the 5400-5600 stall area which it ended up being 5500. The Duster was back running 10.50's and even a few 10.40's. I talked to John before installing the second converter and he said if I got the converter right it word be LOTS stronger and run about the same. Thanks John.

I want to go back to a 904 also. I have a low gear 904 I need to have Wayne Smothers rebuild but I have so much other crap to do before drag week I don't know if I can fit it in.

I have actually done a whole bunch of research into building a 904 for my own shop R&D race car. I never knew there were 2 different front servo sizes. The early small servo "up to 77 I think" will not hold a whole lot of power because it can't mechanically create enough pressure on the front band to hold it. I learned a trick with the front pumps to practically eliminate converter hub breakage. Use an A500 pump along with a custom converter. The A999 is the Trans to build if you can find one. Info is available but unlike a 727 is not all in one place. I don't want to get off topic on "sixpackgut's" post but things that give a 904 a bad name can be prevented and built into a fairly stout race Trans.

I am no trans expert, but I have raced 904's A500's and a ton of 727's in my cars.....The 904 is tricky to get it to live in a mild bracket car, let alone one as quick as yours. The A500 pump, and the A999, I believem have a hollow input shaft to feed the lockup convertor. This is a very weak area, and I would not put a 9s capable power train in front of one of those. The lockup convertors max out a 3000 stall, they are very heavy, great for cruising, but not the best race convertor. If you can get the 904 to live, it will be the fastest and more reliable than a lockup Mopar trans. I know they take about half the amount of Hp to spin a 904 vs a 727, so put a deep pan on it, some good internals, and see if it holds up....

The late 904 transmission are indeed lockup but they can be changed to non lockup so easily it's not funny! Knock 1 check ball out of the front pump asembly, change the Input shaft, change the valve body. Done. I have a 300m shaft that I am putting in mine. The front drum asembly is 5 clutches stock not 4 like the early Trans and the forward is 4 clutches not 3 like the early Trans. They make thin checked clutches for the 904 just like the 727 so I have 6 clutches going into my high gear drum. I'm going to give it a shot. I break it, I break it.

And I have torn the ear of the band more than once in an A998 with a mild 360 in front of it.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.
