Mallory HyFire VII. I have 2 or 3 of them but mine are not for sale. Check out racing junk or flea bay and see what you find.
They are bullet proof and easily upgradable. And, there is a guy that I found who was the lead engineer on this stuff at Mallory and he does repairs.
My motto is never comp and never ever MSD but that is just me.

I like the Digital 7 from MSD. Check out the features it has, might fit you well. It has enough juice to stop your heart should you ground yourself and make contact with the coil. DAMHIK. Mine is about thirteen years old and going strong.

If you still have the box and want to fix it, PM me and I'll give you the info for the guy who fixes them. It took me a bit to hunt him down, but his prices are very good, and he says he can repair most anything that can be done to kill the. Also, if you still have it and want to sell it PM me on that too.

Is the Mallory 685 the one with the screen an adjustment bottoms on the top? If so I have a new in the box (box is tattered from riding around in my drag week trailer) Sounds like a 685, I have a couple sitting on the shelf as spares, great box.

I'd probably go w/ the MSD 7AL3. I'm still leery of the digital boxes.

I don't think the grid is an option for him. Don't think it's legal.

After running a Grid I would run nothing else if it is legal for your class. This reminds me I need to post up my old 7AL3 in the classifieds.....

I got my Grid through Summit and for now can do everything I need with just the 7720 & 7730, program it with the laptop so don't need any added piggyback acc. Got mine through Summit with racer discount, 10% off and $50 back special gift card from MSD I was at $653.
I will also add I am running the Grid with my MSD Pro Power coil as the MSD tech said it would be fine and I didn't need to buy the specific one that MSD called out for the grid, this is just a FWIW
