Hello

I think that the correct finish for the hemi leafsprings on a 69 hemi b body is gloss black.

I think they were dipped from the factory?..

Now question is....were they dipped assembled

Or

were the individual leafs dipped and then assembled?

Im wondering if the clamps, sliders, rubber insulators, etc should be painted black as well or not.

Dipped as an assembly clamps and all, paint was extremely thin, not glopped on thick stuff. Hangers were raw steel.

I just pulled the rear springs off and apart on my grand pops 69 Roadrunner he gave me. I found black paint runs in between the leaf springs so I'm guessing they were dipped as an assembly and where the springs were compressed together with that weird looking bolt, the paint didn't get cause it was so tight.

inherited a 69 roadrunner from my grand pop.

You must have a big tank.
What paint are you going to use with how much reducer.

My plans are to assemble them and somehow hang them like they were mounted on the car and just lay some heavy coats of paint onto it. I'd imagine I would get runs like that too.

Whether you dip or spray them you will want coat them individually with DP-90 first so they don't leach rust. And if you go with the dipping process you will want the DP-90 coverage for the thin paint to cover with out being to thick.

LOL!!

thats why i typed dip betwen qoteation marks.

No way Im gonna dip them. No I dont have a tank that deep and most of all, I dont have enough money to waste on filling a tank with paint just for dipping a couple leafsprings!!! LOL

I will just shoot em gloss black with a paint gun and go a bit thick and then hang em. Good enuff for me!

I already dissassembled, blasted them, epoxy primed em for rust protection, and Im assembling them again with brand new zinc interliners, plastic spacers, clamps and insulators. they will also be getting new front spring eye bushings...and then ill spray em black as I said.

I need to get some too. I'm sure most places do have them. Was hoping I could get lucky and find them at the local parts store or something.

Frank B. used to have the front bushings available for these leaf springs. You might want to give him a call if you can't find them at your local parts supplier.

Domingo,
dig aaaa narrow and shallow trench close to the dimension of the spring, but make it deep enough to submerge the spring. THe closer, the better as less paint is required to submerge the spring.
Line it with heavy visqueen, set spring in it and pour thinned paint over.
Remove and set other spring in and then add additional paint as required.
When done remove as much unused paint as you can (save for other uses) and dump clean sand into the trench until you have a thick mass remove the plastic from the ground with the sand mix on it and set it in a flat area away from pets and etc.
Spread it out and allow to dry, dispose.
