Yes, that is an early long shank speedo gear. It will fit your 68 tranny no problem. Awesome! Thanks man

The shaft recess in the reproduction gears aren't deep enough to accept the manual speedo cable, that is why they are listed for the electronic sensor and not the earlier cable driven applications. The company that reproduced them didn't verify fitment before making thousands of them.

The company that reproduced them didn't verify fitment before making thousands of them. That makes sense. How far off are they? Would trimming the speedo cable make it usable? How bout swapping shafts from an old one? I've heard its just a slight press fit. Not sure if it's true though.

Gears are molded on a knurled shaft, not removable. Good luck trimming the cable without fraying it.

I called on a new reproduction one and the recess for the cable is only 5/8" as opposed to 1-1/8" in my old one. Does that mean I'm reduced to looking for a used 37 tooth gear? Or does someone reproduce an accurate original that I can use a cable with?

I just did a search for mopar 37 tooth speedo gears on ebay and a bunch of sellers of used gears showed up. None of them have 37 tooth gears. They just put all the numbers in the title of their ad so they show up. Its BS. I guess I'll just have to be on the lookout.
