I am collecting a few things for a spring refresh before the cruising season starts. I can not seem to find any info on the 4* advanced timing sets I have read about. It is for a '77 318.
Any help finding a set-up would be appreciated.

You can get a three position timing set at any parts store. 4* advanced.,0*, and 4* retarded. QA good brand is coyles. Follow the instructions very carefully because they can be a bit confusing.

a 77 318 I would definitely adv it 4 deg. what Stump said, the dots/triangles/squares can be confusing. Expecially cuz there can be a set for which keyway to use then another set to get you lined up dot to dot. the ones closer to the center generally are for the keyways and the ones closer to the OD are for dot to dot. If the keyway ain't very close to 1:30 when you are setting up then things ain't right & I'd recheck where you are at

Not much love for the Cloyes set in that link. I am wondering if most of that is due to racing, as many mentioned that as well. This is for a 3/4 ton van that gets driven regularly during the summer months. A little spirited driving, but I don't plan to punish it.
I'm wondering now if the Cloyes will hold up, or if there are other options besides high dollar sets. I don't want to throw hundreds of dollars at a timing chain, but I don't want to do this again in a couple years.
Also noticed a silly trend to argue about what stretches in a timing set. Aren't the pins and rollers part of the chain?

Never used a Cloyes but I had always heard good regarding it & I'm surprised to hear otherwise. Just me, For your app I'd get a bottom line roller set & call it good & move onward. Should last for years.

Buy the best one yo can get from Cloyes for racing, it will hold up better Also make sure and check the cam timing, intake lobe center, to get it advanced where you want it NEVER ASSUME
