I have a fresh aluminum head 360 with all the goodies.I also have a '90 roller cam 318 with a whiplash cam performer intake 650 AVS carb etc. I can't decide which one I want to install in my 87 D150.What would you fellow mopar guys think?

What does "all the goodies" mean. That isn't a very precise description. We need more information to give you any advise. Is the 90 motor stock other than cam intake and carb? Also would help to know the trans and rear combo while your at it.

He has the specifics posted in the Q+A section. 60 over 360 stock bottom end ProComp aluminum heads that have been gone through by a machinist. Torker intake. Decent cam.

Gas is low in price right now, I'd go with the bigger engine while I could afford to, keeping the 318 in reserve for when the price comes back up.

R.

That's what I was leaning towards dogdays.I was going to put some easy miles on the 360 till I can find an A body to put it in.And yes the 318 is stock sans cam, intake and carb,3.55 SG rear,727 trans with a 2200 converter.

The only issues that I would have is that of compatibility with the existing torque converter and oil pan fit. If the 318 has a truck pan it will fit the truck chassis, if the 360 has a truck pan it will fit the truck chassis, if the 360 is internally balanced it will bolt up where the 318 was with a neutral balance converter or you can use one of these or weld the weights on the converter, but changing the flexplate is easier. At least I have that covered.I have all the components to drop either engine in my truck.I also have two converters and flex plates. The only thing I dont have is the pass. side engine bracket for the 318 as i understand they are different from the 360.

I am running almost the same 318 combo in my 85 stepside.

91-#302 headed 318

holley 6210 650cfm spredbore dbl pumper
holley street dominator intake 1/2" 4 hole spacer
hedman headers 2.5 duels 2 chamber muffs turned out at the steps
NV4500 5 speed
9 1/4 3.55 locker
29x11.50x15

I have also run the a999 stock HS/LU-TC as well as a 727 stock HS non lock-up trans in this truck. very happy with all 3 trans combos on this whiplash 318.

I run a 440 whiplash in my 88-440 truck stock LS-TC with a 2.76 gear 29x15x15 M/Ts super happy with this combo and only gets better swapping in 3.23 or 3.91 to play with.

I would save the coin on swapping then swapping to A-body my self.

does the 360 have a whiplash cam as in GOODYS?

is the 360 build more of a race engine or street engine?

street is neat and race is..well racing.

The 360 has a summit 1798 cam which is .228/.228-.480/.480 on a 112 lsa.Paired with a Torker 2 intake and a 2800-3200 11" converter,770 street avenger.

With the 587 iron heads the compression ratio was 10.75.I wasnt comfortable with that so I bought a set of Speedmaster bare castings and had them assembled by my machine shop.We havent checked compression yet, that is happening this week before final assembly.I was going to use a Comp 270ah-8 cam which is 224/230-.470/.480 on a 108 lsa.It is an "old school" grind with no advance ground in.Might still use it if the compression ratio isnt so high now.
