I've seen them cut with a chop saw, sawzall, or power hack saw.

I bought a cheapo pipe cutter on ebay, I use to cut a straight line in it.
Then I use a cuttoff wheel in a grinder

I used a pipe cutter, it cuts clean and straight.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

I used a chop saw on my last one. I have also used a sawzaw(SP) and a large hose clamp to mark the cut. Don't cut exactly at the clamp, use a grinder and grind up to the clamp to keep the end of the tube true.

A lathe, but youll need a big one......and the proper supports/tooling.

Sure makes nice cuts though.

I used to care but....... things have changed

I prefer a horizontal bandsaw. Nice slow, clean square cut.

Chop saws work but tend to flex and flare out at the end of the cut.

I use a pipe cutter to put a GOOD line in the tube
then use my horizonal saw... the blade tracks nice
and straight on the line.... no need to dress the end
other than the burr

I just used a large pipe cutter the other day:

Beginning the cut.

Close up.

Finished cut.

same thing I did!
It might be a good idea to clean the housing around where the wheel rides to maintain an accurate cut, but -- thats the ticket for a square cut IMO
