I have the bucket seats out of a 67 GTX, and apart. What is the best way to remove the chrome trim that looks to be crimped on. Also, does anyone have a way to restore the vinyl simulated on the seat backs and side covers.

Thanks
Dan.

If they are anything like my 67 coronet R/T...

You need to CAREFULLY pry the chrome off with a screwdriver or an awl.. There are some clips under the chrome that hold it on to the metal.

I scraped off the vinyl covering on the backs and lower sides and painted mine. LOTS of work using a heat gun and razor blades...

Just Dashes has a process for re-finishing the metal backs that looks real good. You wouldn't be looking for a complete red interior for that car would ya? PM me if you are.

Does anyone have a good picture of the grain on a Just Dashes finished part? Has anyone had them do a seat for a 67 GTX, and are you satisfied with how they look compared to an original.

Thanks
Dan

I haven't seen the work, but I understand it is REAL spendy, like $800...

FWIW - I understood the finish you are asking about to be a laquer, the same as the finish on the metal of the dash.

The GTX seat backs are not painted. I am not sure what they called the covering, but it is glued on and looks like vinyl.

Thanks
Dan

Dan, those seat backs are metal and painted. My GTX is unrestored and they are NOT covered in vinyl.
Sounds like somebody alter yours at one point.

Dante, I have 5 of these cars sitting here. One was bought new by my dad. All have the same grain on the back of them. I have 3 sets of black,1 set of white and a set of blue seats. The material on all of these look to be a vinyl that was put on under a heat/vacuum process???

Here is a picture of a side skirt

I would like to here from other 67 GTX owners, as I have never seen a set that was just painted.

Thanks
Dan

I have a 67 coronet R/T.. Front buckets have a vinyl applied to the steel back and bottom side piece.. As said above been trying to remove mine and it is really glued/heated/stuck on to the metal very well.. Had mine dipped and all it did was shine up the vinyl.. Been taking a heat gun, heating up a small area at a time, and using a razorblade scraper tool to scrape it off little by little.. Aircraft paint remover softens it a little, but not much...

This is correct-----It's not paint----some kind of glued on material.

I am sure you can.. Mine were pretty scarred up and I personally think the coating is hokey looking, so I am going for a painted look on these items.. Again, the coating is a true pain to get off....
