I need to add the side pinstripes to my 71 GTX. I need the correct width and black color, gloss or flat for it. One graphics supplier said they are 1/4 inch gloss. Is that correct? Thanks.

The width is approx .200, just a whisker over 3/16", as stated they were painted on, and the quality varied greatly, Trimbrite has a 3/16" wide "paint pinstripe" that has the effect of a brushed pinstripe line in it's premium pinstripe line, it's textured with a brush stroke and semi transparent micro brush lines of color, just like you'd see on a real painted pinstripe, retail is about $30 for 50 feet, I found it while doing the 71 GTX vert project

Does the correctness of the stripe matter?

As Dayclona mentioned, the stripes were hand painted on at the factory and as such, their consistency varied considerably. The tape pin stripe will actually be much more consistent that the original stripes were. If that matters.

There are some repops of the original engineering drawings of these details floating around. I may even have some copies left over from my projects. Getting the bends around the wheel well openings right is the real test.

And any good pin stripe painter can whip them on in a few minutes. Sometimes there are pin stripe painters at car shows that do the stripes then and there.

No, the bottom edge of the stripe is approx 1.000 (1 inch) above the lower hard edge body line the entire length, I circled the key notes in the pic

Thanks Mike. I got it now. I did email Trimbrite to try and get a part number for the tape if they still make it. You have been very helpful.
